If you are a victim of domestic violence, a safety plan is recommended. Even if the abuser has not physically harmed you, emotional and psychological abuse often escalate to physical abuse. And leaving any abusive relationship increases the risk of danger to a victim.
A victim advocate can help you assess your situation, develop the plan, help you understand your legal rights and direct you to community resources and aid. The National Domestic Violence Hotline is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 1-800-799- SAFE (7233). They can help you find help in your area. You can also contact a coalition in your state for assistance.
The following are suggested safety measures. They are not a guarantee of safety or a substitute for legal or other professional counsel. Please consult with a victim advocate to plan your best course of action.
