INTIMATE PARTNER SEXUAL VIOLENCE
Also known as intimate partner rape, marital rape, spousal rape and present in cases of domestic violence, intimate partner sexual violence takes place in intimate relationships. The perpetrator can be a boyfriend, husband, girlfriend or wife. It can also occur in a non-committed sexual relationship.
Victims often wonder if sexual assault can take place in intimate relationships because they have consented to sex previously. Any sexual activity that takes place without consent is sexual assault. It doesn’t have to be overt, frequent, violent, leave visible injury or require medical attention.
